• Tackling Menopause the Ayurveda way.

    Menopause is defined as the time of ceassation of ovarian function resulting in permanent amennorhoea. Every woman in age group of 45 – 55 yrs goes through menopausal stage. Along with menopause comes its associated physical and mental symptoms due to associated hormonal disturbance.



    Some of the common symptoms experienced during menopausal phase are :

    • Hot flushes.
    • Excessive sweating which may even cause disruption of sleep.
    • Insomnia.
    • Headache.
    • Mood swings and palpitations.
    • Irritability, depression, and other psychological complaints.
    • Cancer phobia.
    • Lack of concentration.
    • Arthritis, backache.
    • Osteoporosis and fracture.
    • Skin changes.
    • Heart diseases, hypertension.
    • Urinary complaints (frequent urination especially at night).
    • Dysuria and recurrent urinary tract infections.
    • Loss of libidio due to dry vagina.
    • Sudden weight gain or weight loss.

    All these symptoms results in tremendous mental disturbance. Hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) is the only answer for this in allopathy , which brings along with it few other risks like breast or uterine cancer which one cannot afford to tame. It is also not recommended in women with hypertension, migrane, and myocardial infarction.

    Ayurveda offers simple natural solutions without any side-effects. The very first being regular timely meals, intake of milk, fruit juices of pomogranate, sweet lime,lime juice is benificial. Medicines like Shatavari, Ashwagandha, Gokshur, Lodhra, Amla, Shatavari kalpa, Brahmi, Nagarmotha, Guduchi, Yashtimadhu, Dashmoolarishta, Ashokaristha,can be taken under guidance of consulting  Ayurvedic physician. Medicated milk, Vasant kusumakar rasa, Kushmanda pak, Chyawanprash serves additional advantage.

    Procedures like Abhyang with specific medicated oil, Shirodhara, Tarpan, Nabhi puran, Nasya, Basti, adds to relief. Pichu dharan reduces dryness of vagina.  Finally last but not the least regular Exercise, Yoga, Pranayam, Meditation has a soothing effect. All these procedures not only lessens physical but also mental stress faced by women in this phase. The lady also needs family support so family members should give necessary attention and affection and develope positive attitude which is utmost important factor..
