  • वर्षा ऋतु आणि आरोग्य – बस्ति चिकित्सा

    पावसाळा सुरु झाला म्हणजे मन कसं प्रसन्न होते, मातीचा सुगंध, हवेतील गारवा, गरम गरम चहा आणि  भजी (तळलेले पदार्थ)… वा… कसा छान बेत जमतो. अहो पण कधी विचार केलात, भजीच का? श्रिखंड, बासूंदी, ताक, अगदी आईस्क्रिम का नाहि, खावेसे वाटत आपल्याला? सांगते, आपल्या शास्त्रात म्हणजे (आयुर्वेदात)  ह्या सगळ्याची शास्त्रशुद्ध उत्तरे आहेत. आयुर्वेद हे फक्त व्याधी उपचाराचे नाही  तर जीवन जगण्याचे शास्त्र आहे. सद्वृत्त, दिनचर्या, ऋतुचर्या, स्वास्थ्य, आरोग्य आणि दिर्घायुष्य  कमावण्याचे साधन आहे. प्रत्येक ऋतुच्या गुणधर्मानुसार, आपला आहार विहार बदलत असतो, व परीणामतः शारीरिक दोषांमधे देखिल बदल होतच असतात. एकूण ६ ऋतु, त्यांचे गुणधर्म,त्याचा शरीर दोषांवर होणारा परीणाम आणि त्या अनुषंगाने पाळावयाची  ऋतुचर्या, पुन्हा कधीतरी सविस्तर बघु. वर्षा ऋतु, आणि त्याच्या अगोदर असणारा ऋुतु म्हणजे, ग्रीष्म ऋतु (उन्हाळा). ह्या ऋतुमधे अत्यूष्ण, तीक्ष्ण, गुणांमुळे वात दोषाचा संचय होतो. पावसामुळे वातावरणात वाढलेल्या गारठ्याचि संचित वात दोषाला जोड मिळते आणि वात दोषाचा प्रकोप होतो. आता हया मुळच्या शीत आणि रुक्ष वात दोषाला शांत  करणार कोण?  तर उष्ण(गरम) अणि स्निग्ध असे तेल; म्हणूनच गरमागरम तळलेले पदार्थ खाण्याची इच्छा शरीर व्यक्त करत असते. आहे कि नाही आपल्या शरिराचे हायटेक मेकँनिजम ? हा प्रकुपित वात पुढे सांधेदुखी, कंबरदुखी, अंगदुखी इ. वातविकारांना बळ देतो, हाच प्रकुपित वात पित्त  दोषाच्या साहचर्याने शितपित्त(आंगावर पित्ताच्या गांधी उठणे), अॅसिडिटि होणे, अजीर्णासारखे व्याधि  उत्पन्न करतो. पावसाळ्यात जठराग्नि (पचन शक्ति) मुळातच दुर्बल असतो आणि निसर्गतः वात दोषाचा प्रकोप, हया सगळ्यावर उपाय म्हणून अयुर्वेदात सांगितल्याप्रमाणे वर्षा ऋतुचर्येचे पालन करावे. पचण्यास हलके, ताजे आणि गरम अन्न खावे. तेल तुपाचा योग्य प्रमाणात  आहारात वापर करावा. http://www.ayurvedalive.in/the-monsoon-health-care  ह्या सगळ्या तक्रारींवर उपाय म्हणून आणि त्याखेरीज स्वास्थ व्यक्तिंनीदेखिल आरोग्य टिकवण्यासाठी व वातविकार टाळण्यासाठी पावसाळ्यात बस्ति कर्म (पंचकर्मातील एक ऊपक्रम) करूनच घ्यावे. आयुर्वेदतात ऋतुनुसार पंचकर्माचे(शोधन कर्म) वर्णन केले आहे. त्यातील एक म्हणजे वर्षा ऋतु मधे बस्ति. बस्ति महात्म्य  : ग्रंथात बस्तिचे वर्णन अर्ध चिकित्सा म्हणुन व प्रसंगी पूर्ण चिकित्सा असे आहे. बस्ति मुळे वात दोषाचे नियमन होते. शारीर धातुंचे पोषण आणि वर्धन करते. तारूण्य टिकवण्यास मदत करते. पचन शक्ति सुधरण्यास फायदेशीर ठरते. आरोग्य टिकवून राहते. वात विकार व काही पित्त विकारांचे देखिल शरिरातून उच्चाटन करुन टाकते.  बस्ति उपक्रमानंतर  संधिवात,गुडघेदुखी, कंबरदुखी,आमवात ह्यात उत्तम उपशय मिळतो. अपचन, मलबद्धता, पोटात वात धरणे ह्या तक्रारी दूर होतात. अनापत्यता, पाळीच्या तक्रारी, सौंदर्य वर्धन हयात उपयुक्त. हे आणि अश्या बर्‍याच फायद्यांनी बस्ति आपल्या शरिरास उपकृत करते. मग कसला विचार करताय? ह्या पावसाळ्यात तुमच्या जवळच्या आयर्वेदिक दवाखान्यात जाउन वैद्यांच्या मार्गदर्शनानुसार बस्ति घ्या आणि वात विकारांना अलविदा करा….

    After knowing about post-partum mother care (Sutika paricharya) in detail, in previous articles, we shall now learn about, some easy to make and healthy recipes for the new moms (sutika ahar). Everyone around advises the new mother to eat healthy, and nutritious food, have lots of ghee, eat ladoos of various types and lots more. This is possible in families where elderly females are nearby, but in nuclear families where there is nobody to guide, new mommies are really confused with what to eat and what to avoid. This article is specially for these moms. I will share some recipes which are healthy and tasty. 1. Sunthavda (Dry ginger tablet) : Ingredients : Dry ginger powder – 2 tsp Jaggery – 2 tsp Turmeric – 1/4 tsp Ghee – 1 tsp Preparation : Heat ghee in a pan (use low flame), Add jaggery to it , stir continuously to avoid sticking, Once the jaggery starts melting add ginger powder and turmeric, mix well and serve warm.     Infertility in a woman can occur due to various reasons, some of them can be easily curable, now lets know how to confront it.     Guidelines to treat female infertility : To treat any ailment one should be sure of the causative factor, once it is detected you can proceed with the medications and therapies. As mentioned earlier the vata dosha, predominantly Apan vayu should be taken care of along with the associated impaired Dosha. Pain, swelling, Vaginal infections, ulcerations should be treated according to the cause for the same. Herbs like Punarnava, Gokshur, Haridra, Anantmool, Manjishtha, Triphala, Chandan reduces swelling and pain. If Pandu (Anaemia) is the cause it should be treated first. Intercourse should be strictly avoided till the swelling subsides if overindulgence is the reason for swelling. These medicines also bring the infection under control when taken along with medicines like Chandraprabha vati, Arogyavardhini, Sookshma triphala, chandanasav, ushirasav.     The news of conception and feeling of becoming a mother gives an unexplained contentment to every woman’s heart. It is an innate desire of every woman to hold her baby in arms and bestow upon it, her affectionate love, generously. Conception is a natural course in an individual, whereas in some cases the female may have to confront some hinderances. As explained previously, Infertility is inability to conceive after one year of unprotected sexual intercourse. Woman who conceive but are incapable to retain the foetus till the birth are also termed infertile. Causes of Female Infertility : According to Ayurveda Uterus comprises of three functional layers : Prathamavarta or the first layer consists of Vulva. Dwitiyaavarta or Second layer comprises of Vagina, cervical canal, cervix. The ovaries, fallopian tubes and endometrium forms the innermost third layer or Tritiyaavarta, any  abnormality in  these functional layers results in gynaecological problems.     Menopause – the phase of life which no woman can escape from. As mentioned in the previous article menopause brings with it a great deal of irritation and annoyance which is mainly due to hormonal imbalance. The  intensity of menopausal symptoms experienced by every woman varies, depending upon her tolerance level and her other health and nutritional issues. Instead of surrendering to the situation, incorporating few changes in regular lifestyle and diet, can work wonders and keep the phase in control. Few simple tips : Follow regular meal timings. Avoid too much of spicy, oily, fermented and stale foods. Avoid frequent eating of food products with saturated fats like cheese, paneer, khoya,etc. Bring into practice of having milk, ghee regularly in diet, it replenishes wear and tear of the body. Also eat butter at times. Such as Ashwagandha powder + ghee + sugar + milk builds up muscle strength.     Menopause is defined as the time of ceassation of ovarian function resulting in permanent amennorhoea. Every woman in age group of 45 – 55 yrs goes through menopausal stage. Along with menopause comes its associated physical and mental symptoms due to associated hormonal disturbance.     Some of the common symptoms experienced during menopausal phase are : Hot flushes. Excessive sweating which may even cause disruption of sleep. Insomnia. Headache. Mood swings and palpitations. Irritability, depression, and other psychological complaints. Cancer phobia. Lack of concentration. Arthritis, backache. Osteoporosis and fracture. Skin changes. Heart diseases, hypertension. Urinary complaints (frequent urination especially at night). Dysuria and recurrent urinary tract infections. Loss of libidio due to dry vagina. Sudden weight gain or weight loss. All these symptoms results in tremendous mental disturbance. Hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) is the only answer for this in allopathy , which brings along with it few other risks like breast or uterine cancer which one cannot afford to tame.
